About Troop 46
We’re a Boy Scout troop based in Houston, TX serving young men ages 11-17. We meet weekly at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
Troop 46 is part of Scouting America, a time-tested program built around three big ideas:
Adventure: Campouts, hikes, and hands-on experiences that get Scouts off the couch and into the world
Service: Giving back to the community and learning what it means to lead with purpose
Growth: Building confidence, resilience, and skills that last a lifetime
Scout-Led. Adult-Supported.
What makes Troop 46 special? The Scouts run the show.
Our troop is Scout-led, meaning the young men in our troop plan their own activities, lead their own meetings, and own their scouting experience. Adults are here to support, guide, and keep things safe, but leadership belongs to the Scouts.
Adventure Every Month
Troop 46 camps monthly, plus a week-long summer camp at a different Scout Camp each year. Recent trips include Lake of the Ozarks in Arkansas and Buffalo Trail Scout Ranch in the Davis Mountains of West Texas.
Examples of campouts upccoming this year including the Angler Classic (fishing!), Camp Mac Attack (cooking), a geocaching campout, Camporee at Camp Strake, Swamp-o-ree in Louisiana, a hiking and climbing campout at Enchanted Rock, and a family campout at Stephen F. Austin State Park, and of course an amazing summer camp adveture at Camp Orr, Arkansas.
Small Teams, Big Responsibility
Scouts are organized into patrols of 8–10, each electing its own Patrol Leader. Patrols are intentionally mixed-age with no separate "new scout" groups so younger Scouts learn hands-on from older ones, and older Scouts build real leadership experience.
Earn Your Way Up
Scouts advance through seven ranks, from Scout all the way to Eagle, by mastering skills, serving their community, and demonstrating leadership. Along the way, they can choose from over 100 merit badges, spanning topics from cybersecurity to wilderness survival to aviation!
Real Skills for the Real World
Scouts don’t just read about the outdoors: they live it. Camping, navigation, cooking, first aid, and dozens of other hands-on skills are built one adventure at a time.
